The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has announced the commencement of its screening exercise for all aspirants seeking elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the party, the exercise will begin on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in line with the national timetable approved by the party leadership, and will cover all major political positions including the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and the governorship seat.
In a statement issued on Monday by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, the party confirmed that the screening will be conducted in phases over several days to ensure proper assessment of all aspirants.
For the State House of Assembly aspirants, screening will take place on Tuesday at the PDP secretariat in Ilorin, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The party stated that only those who have successfully purchased and completed their nomination and expression of interest forms will be allowed to participate.
The statement further noted that aspirants for the House of Representatives and Senate tickets will undergo screening on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, also at the party secretariat in Ilorin.
For the governorship aspirants, their screening has been scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2026, and will hold at the PDP national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The party directed all aspirants to come with relevant documents required for verification, including completed nomination forms, valid means of identification, academic certificates, birth certificate or sworn declaration of age, recent passport photographs, party membership cards, and evidence of payment for forms and dues.
Additional requirements include tax clearance certificates covering the last three years, proof of indigeneship, financial standing documentation, and two photocopies of all submitted forms.
The PDP stressed that strict compliance with the screening requirements will be enforced, warning that only duly screened and qualified aspirants will progress to the next stage of the party’s selection process.
It added that the exercise reflects the party’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and the emergence of credible candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development comes as political parties across Nigeria intensify preparations, consultations, and internal screenings ahead of the next general elections.
