Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced plans to give every child in the United States a share in his space exploration company, SpaceX, starting next year.
Musk made the announcement on Monday through a post on X, although he did not explain how the proposed distribution would work or provide further details about the plan.
“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk wrote.
“This will be the first of many,” he added.
According to 2024 data from the US Census Bureau, approximately 73 million children under the age of 18 live in the United States.
Musk owns 38 per cent of SpaceX, according to Forbes, making the proposed giveaway a significant undertaking if it covers every American child as stated.
His announcement comes after US President Donald Trump promised last month to give every American adult $5,000 if his Republican Party retains control of Congress in the November midterm elections.
SpaceX has also recorded major financial and technological milestones this year. In June, the company set a record for the largest initial public offering in history, raising $85.7 billion.
Meanwhile, the company’s Starship megarocket reached orbit for the first time in September, marking a significant milestone for the spacecraft central to Musk’s ambitions of sending humans to Mars.
However, Musk has yet to explain how the proposed shares would be allocated to children, who would manage them, or whether any conditions would apply.
