The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a clean sweep in the Kogi State local government elections, winning all 21 chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship positions across the state.
The results were announced by the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) following the completion of collation at its headquarters in Lokoja on Saturday.
KOSIEC Chairman, Mamman Nda-Eri, confirmed that the APC won every chairmanship position across the state’s 21 local government areas and all 239 councillorship seats in the 239 wards.
Nda-Eri described the election as peaceful and credible, saying it was conducted in accordance with the commission’s electoral guidelines. He also commended security agencies, election observers, journalists and voters for their conduct during the exercise.
According to the commission’s chairman, the announcement marked the completion of all 13 activities outlined for the 2026 local government elections, a process that began almost a year ago. He added that Certificates of Return would be presented to the successful candidates in due course.
The outgoing local government chairmen and councillors, who assumed office on October 23, 2024, are expected to leave office this month following the completion of their two-year tenure, as provided under the state’s electoral law.
