US President Donald Trump has confirmed that his administration is considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle from her position as US ambassador to Greece following a series of damaging reports about her personal dealings and relationships with wealthy Greek businessmen.
Trump made the disclosure on Monday when reporters asked whether Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and ex-fiancée of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., could be dismissed from the diplomatic post.
“Well, we’re looking at it. Yeah, we’re not happy,” the president replied.
The controversy follows a series of reports by The Wall Street Journal examining Guilfoyle’s activities and communications. According to the newspaper, Guilfoyle allegedly asked Eric Deters, a prominent Trump supporter, to help settle $100,000 in personal credit card debt.
The newspaper reported that Guilfoyle sent Deters a message in July 2025, pleading with him to resolve the matter that day. The report also included screenshots of the exchange and a PDF containing payment instructions from her credit card company. Deters reportedly declined the request, telling Guilfoyle that making the payment would jeopardise his marriage.
The revelations emerged last week while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was visiting Europe, including Greece.
The Journal said its investigation involved hundreds of messages, emails and letters, as well as recorded conversations in which Guilfoyle reportedly discussed luxury travel and accommodation paid for by wealthy Greek businessmen.
Among the trips highlighted was a journey to Davos aboard a private jet with Alexandros Exarchou, chief executive of Greek construction company Aktor Group.
Guilfoyle also reportedly spent Christmas at the upscale Swiss resort of Gstaad with Greek shipping tycoon Nikolas Tsakos. In a message cited by the newspaper, she said, “Honey, I spent Christmas with him. New Years. OK? Gstaad. Like, everywhere.”
The report further alleged that when Guilfoyle travelled with Tsakos to Paris for his wife’s fashion show, they stayed for a week at the Four Seasons Hotel George V, with Tsakos covering the expenses.
In another exchange reviewed by the newspaper, Guilfoyle reportedly expressed anger in an expletive-filled message after discovering that she had not been invited to a dinner held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos in January.
Other American media outlets have also reported on potential conflicts of interest involving Guilfoyle, who was previously married to Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of California.
The reports have placed renewed scrutiny on the ambassador as the Trump administration considers whether she should remain in the diplomatic role.
