Former Osun Central Senator Olusola Adeyeye has said the lingering differences between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola can only be resolved if both men are willing to forgive each other.
Adeyeye made the comment while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he was asked whether anyone could successfully bring the two former political allies together.
“I don’t know; only God knows. When things get to be like this, only the two of them can forgive each other,” Adeyeye said.
The former senator, who serves as the South-West Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said he would like to see Tinubu and Aregbesola reconcile.
According to him, bringing the two politicians together would be beneficial to the APC and would help the party as it prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
“My wish would be for my party and for the president, because I want the president to win, and if he must, we must bring everybody together,” he said.
Adeyeye, however, acknowledged that Aregbesola’s current political affiliation could make reconciliation more difficult. The former governor is now associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), an opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said leaving the ADC could also create difficulties for Aregbesola among his supporters.
“It won’t look good to his admirers, especially those who follow him to that party,” Adeyeye said.
The former senator also discussed Aregbesola’s political influence in Osun State and questioned the performance of the ADC during the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
“How did the ADC perform, even in Ilesa? How did Aregbesola perform in Osun Central, where I come from?” he asked.
Adeyeye noted, however, that Aregbesola’s personal popularity should not be dismissed.
He said the situation would be different if the former governor were personally contesting an election.
“If Aregbesola is the candidate, it’s a different matter,” Adeyeye said.
“The truth is he’s still a magnificent person, much loved. If he were a candidate, believe you me, anybody would be hard-pressed to beat him in Osun,” he added.
Adeyeye also argued that Aregbesola’s personal popularity should not automatically translate into support for another candidate.
“Where he’s not the candidate, even he must not deceive himself that he can automatically take the affection for him to another person,” he said.
On the 2027 presidential contest, Adeyeye expressed confidence in the APC’s campaign efforts in the South-West and said the party would work to maintain its support in the region.
“I make bold: anyone from any party who thinks the next election will be easy for it is suffering self-delusion. We in the APC, we work very hard to win,” he said.
He added that the party would seek to secure strong support across the South-West.
Adeyeye’s comments come amid renewed political activity ahead of the 2027 elections and continuing efforts by different political groups to build alliances and consolidate support across the region.
