Hollywood filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry has revealed that he does not plan to get married, saying his concerns about the financial and emotional consequences of divorce have influenced his decision.
The 57-year-old entertainment mogul, who has never been married, disclosed this during a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Perry explained that his decision was not based on a lack of belief in love but rather on his desire to protect the wealth and life he has built over the years.
He said he had watched people close to him lose significant wealth following divorce, making him cautious about marriage.
“I’m never marrying. And it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know that is doing well went broke because of divorce,” he said.
Perry also said growing older had changed his priorities and the way he wanted to spend his time.
The filmmaker shares an 11-year-old son, Aman, with model and activist Gelila Bekele. He said he now wants to spend more time with his son, slow down and enjoy the life he has built.
“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in,” he said.
Perry had previously opened up about his personal life in 2020, when he described himself as a 51-year-old single man going through what he called a “midlife crisis.”
“This is what a midlife crisis looks like. I’m 51, single, and wondering what the next chapter in my life will look like. Whatever it looks like I’m going to walk with God, be the best father and man I can be,” he wrote at the time.
Despite building much of his entertainment career around stories centred on love, marriage and family, Perry said his own future does not currently include walking down the aisle.
Instead, the actor and filmmaker indicated that his priorities are fatherhood, slowing down and appreciating the life he has created.
