The United Kingdom has identified two African countries whose citizens can travel to the UK using an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) instead of applying for a visa, provided they meet the relevant entry conditions.
The countries are Mauritius and Seychelles.
Both countries are included on the UK government’s Appendix ETA National List, which specifies the nationalities whose citizens are required to obtain an ETA before travelling to the UK.
- Mauritius
Mauritian citizens are included on the UK’s ETA National List and can use the ETA route for eligible visits to the UK instead of applying for a visitor visa.
However, travellers must meet the requirements for an ETA and ensure that their intended visit falls within the activities permitted under the scheme.
- Seychelles
Seychellois citizens are also included on the UK ETA National List.
Eligible travellers from Seychelles must obtain an ETA before travelling to the UK and must comply with the applicable entry requirements.
What is it about UK ETA?
An Electronic Travel Authorisation is a digital travel permission that allows eligible travellers to visit the UK without obtaining a visa for certain short-term visits.
However, having an ETA does not automatically guarantee entry into the UK.
Travellers must still satisfy the country’s border and immigration requirements when they arrive.
