The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the reported threat by Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, to flog people who refuse to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.
The opposition party described the reported remark as troubling, particularly because it was allegedly made by a public official, and stressed that Nigerians should be allowed to freely make their political choices ahead of the next general election.
Speaking with Vanguard, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the leadership of the ruling APC should caution members whose statements could undermine the democratic process.
“APC needs to call their members to order,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC spokesman recalled that the APC itself benefited from an electoral environment that allowed Nigerians to reject the then-incumbent government during the 2015 presidential election.
“If PDP had behaved this way, they would not have come to power in 2015,” he said.
Abdullahi also urged security agencies to take action against public officials who, in his view, cross the line from political advocacy into intimidation.
“The security agencies too should make an example of these rascals masquerading as public servants,” he added.
The ADC’s comments come as political parties intensify mobilisation and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties increasingly raising concerns over political rhetoric and the conduct of public officials.
