FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has warned that vehicles belonging to transporters operating along roadsides and car dealers using green areas and parks in Abuja could be impounded and auctioned if they continue to violate government directives.
Wike issued the warning during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in the nation’s capital, expressing concern over the failure of some roadside transporters to comply with instructions from the FCT Administration.
The minister said the government had issued several warnings but some operators had continued with the activities, leaving the administration with no choice but to consider tougher enforcement measures.
According to Wike, some people only comply when government takes firm action. He expressed hope that impounding and auctioning vehicles belonging to defaulters would encourage others to follow the rules.
The FCT Administration recently introduced two major directives: public transport operators must use commissioned bus terminals, while car dealers must stop operating on green areas and parks.
The measures are part of efforts by the administration to reduce flooding in the FCT and improve security within the transportation sector.
