Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate in the August 15 Osun governorship election, has appealed for calm after alleging fresh attacks on members of the party in the state.
Oyebamiji spoke on Friday after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the State House, days after losing the election to Ademola Adeleke.
He said Tinubu advised him and other stakeholders to prioritise peace, stressing that governance is ultimately about serving the people.
“The most important thing is to run every election with a peaceful mind.”
Oyebamiji Appeals to Adeleke
Oyebamiji urged Adeleke to call his supporters to order and prevent further violence in the state.
He said political differences should not lead to attacks on residents and appealed to APC members and other Osun residents to remain calm while the party reviews the election results.
“I want to advise the governor too that it’s important for him to talk to his people. Violence is against our people.”
Adeleke won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji won 11.
APC Still Reviewing Election Result
Oyebamiji said the APC was still examining the election results and would announce its position after completing its assessment.
“By the time we spread our sheet, we’ll be able to get back to the public on what our own opinion is and what decisions we want to take.
The APC candidate also alleged that fresh attacks occurred in his hometown, Ikire, on Friday morning.
He claimed that about four or five people were attacked, adding that security operatives had been informed.
Oyebamiji reiterated his call for calm while the party continues reviewing the outcome of the election.
