Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, has urged residents of the state not to feel betrayed by the governor’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Rasheed made the clarification while speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, saying Adeleke’s endorsement of Tinubu was not a decision made after his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
According to him, Adeleke had already endorsed Tinubu while he was still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and maintained the position after moving to the Accord Party.
“The endorsement predates this election victory,” Rasheed said.
He explained that Adeleke’s support for Tinubu was based on the governor’s desire to attract greater federal attention and development to Osun State.
Rasheed said the governor believes supporting the president could help facilitate federal projects, particularly road infrastructure across the state.
He cited the ongoing work on the Ilesa-Ibadan Road, the award of the Osogbo-Ibadan Road and the Gbongan-Osogbo Road as examples of federal projects being pursued in the state.
Rasheed therefore maintained that Adeleke’s decision was based on what he considered to be in the best interest of Osun residents and should not be interpreted as political opportunism.
“People should not feel betrayed. Mr. Governor is only doing the right thing that is in the best interest of Osun people,” he said.
