The Imole Campaign Council has begun a comprehensive review of the Osun State governorship election and directed its structures across the state’s 30 local government areas to document victims of election-related violence.
In a statement signed by the council’s spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, on Monday, the campaign council said the exercise would cover incidents that occurred before, during and immediately after the election.
The documentation will include people who sustained injuries, families who lost loved ones, individuals whose properties were damaged or destroyed, as well as other identifiable victims.
The council stressed that the exercise would be non-partisan, saying victims would be documented regardless of their political affiliation, party membership or voting preference.
“Violence against any citizen diminishes us all, and no family should be forgotten simply because of their political persuasion,” the council said.
While thanking God and the people of Osun State following the election outcome, the council acknowledged that its victory could not erase the suffering experienced by families affected by violence.
It said responsible leadership requires attention to the human consequences of elections and proper documentation of the experiences of those affected.
The campaign council has therefore instructed its local government structures to submit comprehensive and verifiable records of victims for further review and appropriate action.
“The election is over. Our common humanity must now take precedence over political differences. Osun comes first,” it said.
