The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unanimously reaffirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, despite recent controversy surrounding a failed proposal to sell stakes in the FIFA World Cup.
The decision was announced on Thursday following a meeting of CAF’s leadership, where members expressed continued confidence in Infantino’s leadership of world football.
In a statement released after the meeting, CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the organisation remains fully behind the FIFA president.
The African football governing body also welcomed FIFA’s apology over the unsuccessful World Cup investment proposal, describing the response as appropriate.
According to the statement, CAF unanimously agreed to continue supporting Infantino while endorsing FIFA’s acknowledgement of the concerns raised over the failed initiative.
The proposed plan, which reportedly involved selling stakes in the FIFA World Cup, faced criticism before eventually being abandoned.
Despite the controversy, CAF maintained that its confidence in Infantino’s leadership remains unchanged.
The latest endorsement further strengthens the relationship between CAF and FIFA as both organisations continue to work together on the development of football across Africa and the rest of the world.
