Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, is set to officially assume office today as the Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) following his recent appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place by 10:00 a.m. at the Federal Ministry of Power headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
The event marks the formal inauguration of the newly constituted REA governing board, which will oversee the agency’s efforts to expand electricity access across rural and underserved communities in Nigeria.
Ahead of the inauguration, Fayose met with the Minister of Power, Engr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, on Thursday to discuss the agency’s priorities and plans for improving electricity delivery to communities without reliable power.
The meeting also focused on the new board’s agenda and strategies for strengthening the performance of the Rural Electrification Agency.
President Tinubu recently approved Fayose’s appointment as part of the reconstitution of the REA Board aimed at enhancing the agency’s operations.
According to details released by the Presidency, other members of the board include Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who will serve as non-executive directors.
The board will also include the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, alongside three previously appointed executive directors.
The Rural Electrification Agency is responsible for expanding electricity access to rural communities, promoting off-grid and renewable energy solutions, and supporting the Federal Government’s rural electrification programme.
With his inauguration, Fayose is expected to begin working with other board members to advance projects aimed at improving electricity supply in rural areas and accelerating access to sustainable energy across Nigeria.
