The Imole Campaign Council has defended Governor Ademola Adeleke over his recent remarks about President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the governor never attacked the President but only appealed for his intervention to ensure peace and a credible governorship election in Osun State.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Director-General of the campaign council, Senator Lere Oyewumi, said Adeleke merely called on President Tinubu, as the leader of the country, to intervene in the rising cases of political violence and intimidation allegedly targeting members of the Accord Party in the state.
“Governor Adeleke only called the attention of President Tinubu to the ongoing repression and intimidation of Osun residents and urged the President to call the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, to order so as to stop a recurrence of political violence,” Oyewumi said.
The campaign council alleged that several Accord Party members have been attacked in recent months, claiming that seven members were killed, more than 20 sustained gunshot injuries, while over 60 others remain in police custody.
It also recalled that during the 2022 governorship election, dozens of Adeleke’s supporters reportedly lost their lives, alleging that those responsible were never brought to justice.
“The Accord Party has lost seven members, with more than 20 suffering various gun injuries in the last three months,” the statement added.
The council further accused the opposition of spreading false claims about the state’s finances, insisting that the Adeleke administration has received national recognition for transparency and accountability.
According to Oyewumi, Osun State has earned several awards for budget transparency and auditing performance, dismissing allegations of financial mismanagement.
The statement maintained that Governor Adeleke’s comments were intended to promote peace, protect lives and encourage a free, fair and credible governorship election in the state.
